Horse Portrait in Oil Pastel by Melanie Cambridge 16 October 2021: Melanie started by sharing a copy of the reference photograph and a sample of the pastelmat support to be used. She explained that this was ideal for oil pastel, as it would accept many layers of pastel comfortably. It is important to spend money on a good quality support. Pastel paper tended to show the grain of the paper through to the final picture. She was to use a light brown coloured piece of pastelmat. Pentel oil pastels were to be used.
We are aiming to be back indoors on Wednesday mornings, now with two sessions to allow as many members as possible to enjoy painting alongside others. Details are on the Programme page.
While observing Government advice, we are continuing to run a regular programme, incorporating indoor, outdoor and on-line activities. Full details are provided to members through our regular newsletter as well as through this website and our Facebook page.
Following Liz Seward's retirement, we were delighted to welcome Cecil Rice as our new President. We have already enjoyed a demonstration with him and he formally opened our 2021 Exhibition, choosing a painting by Judith Armstrong as his favourite and winner of our Rose Bowl prize.
Cecil has established a successful career with work exhibited at many prestigious galleries, including the Royal Academy, as well as appearing on TV and producing a lavishly illustrated book. You can find out more through his website – www.cecilrice.co.uk
Our Facebook page attracts regular new work from many of our artists, often the produce of one of our weekly sessions. Members and their friends can join the page – allowing them to post items and offer constructive feedback. The general public can view the page but not comment.
More detail can be accessed from our Programme page. Details of locations are provided via email and newsletter to members who wish to participate.
